Russia has welcomed the new United States National Security Strategy, presented by the Trump administration last week, describing the 33-page document as largely “consistent” with its own objectives.

The strategy, which suggests that Europe is facing a risk of “civilizational erasure,” does not identify Russia as a direct threat to the U.S. Among the priorities stated are combating foreign influences, stopping mass migration, and rejecting policies attributed to the European Union, perceived as forms of “censorship.”

Some European officials and analysts have criticized the document, questioning the emphasis on freedom of speech and noting similarities with Moscow’s rhetoric.

“The adjustments we see… are largely in line with our vision,” said Kremlin spokesperson Dmitri Peskov, in an interview published Sunday by the state agency TASS.

He described the document as “a positive step,” adding that Moscow will continue to analyze it before drawing definitive conclusions.

The strategy uses a more conciliatory tone towards Russia, an aspect that, according to some European officials, could weaken the international response related to ending the war.

The document accuses the European Union of hindering Washington’s efforts to end the conflict and states that the United States must “restore strategic stability with Russia,” which, the report claims, would contribute to “stabilizing European economies.”

The text seems to encourage influencing political processes in Europe, suggesting that American policy should prioritize “resistance to the current European trajectory within European states.”
