Russia has announced that it is ready to act as a mediator in the conflict around Iran. The statement was made by the permanent representative of the Russian Federation to international organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov.
“If necessary, Russia is ready to offer mediation services. We have the necessary experience,” said the Russian diplomat.
According to Ulyanov, Tehran would be willing to accept such mediation from Russia in the current situation.
At the same time, he believes that the United States is not interested in involving mediators and that in Washington, D.C. it is believed that the issue can be resolved without intermediaries.
The Russian diplomat stated that, in practice, this turns out “very poorly” for the American side. He recalled that during the negotiations in Vienna on relaunching the nuclear agreement with Iran in the years 2021-2022, the Russian delegation would have contributed several times to bringing the positions of Western countries and Tehran closer.
