Lithuania has intelligence service information suggesting that Russia is planning attacks on its infrastructure. Security measures around energy and transport sector targets will be strengthened as a precaution, President Gitanas Nauseda stated in an interview.

The official stated that he does not have information regarding the time or place where the attacks are planned, writes news.ro.

“We have such signals, which we receive from our services. They do not clearly identify the place or time, as the adversary has not completed the planning, and we only know about the planning or the objective. There could be various means intended to cause physical damage to critical infrastructure,” Nauseda stated.

Lithuania is a NATO country and shares land borders with the Russian region of Kaliningrad, as well as with Belarus. The state has tripled its defense spending since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

Officials from Poland have recently made similar statements, about possible Russian challenges and attacks. Moscow vehemently denies the accusations and says they represent propaganda against Russia.
