The European Union has added five more individuals and four organizations to its sanctions list. Among those sanctioned are businessmen who are directly or indirectly linked to the major state oil companies in Russia – “Rosneft” and “Lukoil”, reports DW.

“They control ships that transport crude oil or petroleum products of Russian origin or exported from Russia, hiding the real origin of the oil and applying irregular and high-risk navigation practices”, states a press release from the EU Council.

The organizations targeted by the new sanctions are maritime transport companies based in the United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, and Russia, which own or manage “ghost” oil tankers already subject to sanctions.

The restrictive measures provide for the freezing of assets, the prohibition of financial transactions, as well as the prohibition of entry into the territory of the European Union, including in transit, the document mentions.
