Washington and Tehran have reached a “principle agreement” on the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, an official of the American administration told The New York Times. The details of the agreement have not yet been stipulated and it is unclear whether Iran will continue to exercise any form of control over the area.

Iran’s measures also include levying taxes for the passage of oil vessels. The cited source notes that the parties have drafted a memorandum of understanding, according to The Washington Post (WP) sources. This project, which the Iranian side still needs to approve, extends the ceasefire by 60 days, to allow the parties to reach a “final agreement” and end the war.

The memorandum would stipulate that Iran will immediately open the Strait of Hormuz and take measures to restore maritime transport to pre-war levels within 30 days, reports The Moscow Times. Iran, the USA, and their allies will declare a cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including in Lebanon, according to American press sources.

An Iranian official, speaking under the condition of anonymity, claimed that the unblocking of the strait will be carried out in stages, and initially the US will unfreeze Tehran’s assets worth 12 billion dollars, will begin demining, and will lift the American blockade on Iranian ports.
