Slovakia — one of the last significant clients of “Gazprom” in the European Union — is ready to conclude a long-term contract with Azerbaijan for the purchase of natural gas, stated the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Environment of Slovakia, Tomáš Taraba.
“We are discussing the conclusion of a long-term contract with Azerbaijan, for a period of at least 10 years. Slovakia wants to diversify its energy supply, and Azerbaijan is a very reliable partner for us,” said Taraba.
According to him, the main issue is the transportation of resources from the Caucasus to Central Europe, but currently the parties are discussing “which pipelines can be used and in what volume”.
Taraba also thanked Baku for the support provided during the interruptions in the import of Russian gas, according to The Moscow Times.
“During the supply crisis, for example, from Ukraine a few months ago, your country was very active in ensuring deliveries to Slovakia”, Taraba said.
Previously, the general director of the largest Slovak oil and gas extraction company, SPP, Martin Huska, stated that Slovakia is negotiating with SOCAR from Azerbaijan regarding a long-term gas contract.
