Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban convened an extraordinary meeting of the Defense Council on Sunday, accusing Ukraine of plotting sabotage against the pipeline transporting Russian gas to Hungary via Serbia, after Serbian authorities announced they had discovered explosives near this pipeline. Ukraine denies any involvement and suggests that this could be a Russian false flag operation in the context of the upcoming Sunday elections.
“This attempt at a terrorist attack fits perfectly into a series of actions through which Ukrainians are constantly trying to interrupt the supply of gas and oil from Russia to Europe,” declared the Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto, in a video clip posted on social networks after participating in the meeting convened by Orban, where the decision was made to mobilize military guard on the Hungarian section of the pipeline, reports the EFE agency, cited by Agerpres.
“Ukraine has nothing to do with this,” wrote a spokesperson for the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry on social network X. “It is most likely a false flag operation, as part of the strong Russian interference in the Hungarian elections,” added the Ukrainian official.
In the same message, Szijjarto reminded of the sabotage on the Nord Stream pipelines and the halt of Russian oil flow through the Ukrainian section of the Druzhba pipeline, the latter causing a conflict between Kiev and Budapest, while Orban blocked a European financial aid of 90 billion euros intended for Ukraine.
