The global internet shutdown in Iran is already in its 38th consecutive day. According to data provided by the cybersecurity monitoring organization NetBlocks, this is the longest duration of such a blockade ever recorded.

The population in Iran has been isolated from international networks and independent sources of information on global events for over 888 hours, reports IPN. This unprecedented measure leaves the general public without the possibility of accessing foreign news and independent information regarding armed conflicts and international events.

The internet blackout in Iran was imposed to limit the coordination of anti-government protests that erupted at the end of last year and to control the flow of information in the context of regional military tensions.

This interruption forced the population to exclusively use the state-controlled national network, blocking wide access to the global internet.
