The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned the accredited ambassador of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Moldova, Oleg Ozerov. The Russian diplomat received a protest note in connection with Moscow’s intention to open 16 polling stations in the Transnistrian region for the State Duma elections.
During the meeting, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated that the organization of any electoral process on the territory of the Republic of Moldova requires the prior and explicit agreement of the Moldovan authorities.
The Ministry has asked the Russian side to refrain from opening polling stations on the left bank of the Dniester, writes IPN.
The Tiraspol administration has announced the opening of 16 polling stations in the Transnistrian region for the elections on September 20 for the State Duma of the Russian Federation. The Chisinau administration maintains that it has authorized the opening of only one polling station on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, within the premises of the Russian Federation’s Embassy in Chisinau.
