The Kremlin declared on Thursday that the intensification of Ukrainian strikes against Russia will only “prolong” the war, after US President Donald Trump suggested that these could pressure Moscow into negotiating a cessation of hostilities, reports AFP, quoted by Agerpres.

“The more the regime in Kiev will hit our infrastructures, the more we will have to extend the security zone” on the front, declared to the journalists the spokesperson of the Russian presidency, Dmitri Peskov.

“A new escalation could prolong the special military operation,” he added, referring to the offensive carried out by Russia in Ukraine since February 2022.

“Therefore,” added Peskov, quoted by Sky News, “the continuation of the escalation will most likely prolong our special military operation to a certain level – I can’t tell you exactly, but it will lead to our creation of a larger security zone and a larger buffer zone”.
