The Polish government condemned, on Thursday, an attempted assault against the Polish ambassador in Russia, which, according to them, took place on Sunday in Saint Petersburg, where he had travelled from Moscow to meet with the Polish community in the city on the occasion of Poland’s Independence Day, reports EFE and the local Polish press, quoted by Agerpres.

It is a “diplomatic scandal that crosses another line” in terms of the deterioration of bilateral relations between Poland and Russia, declared the Polish Minister of Defense, Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, at a press conference in Slupsk, in the north of the country.

Kosiniak-Kamysz clarified that the information regarding the attack denounced by the ambassador “suggests that the attackers were trained activists, instructed to provoke.”

The Polish Minister of Defense affirmed that Poland “will demand respect for international law and the principles of diplomacy,” and announced the soon-to-be-sent protest note to the authorities of the Russian Federation regarding the incident.
