A maintenance center for Patriot interceptor missiles manufactured by the American company Lockheed Martin will be established in Poland, Deputy Defense Minister Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka announced on Tuesday.
The wars in Ukraine and the Middle East have strained stocks of air-defence interceptor missiles and caused delivery delays, prompting countries to seek maintenance and production capabilities closer to home, Reuters explains.
“Four countries competed to host this investment in Europe: Poland, Germany, the Netherlands and Norway,” Sobkowiak-Czarnecka wrote on X. “This success was by no means guaranteed,” she added.
The center in Poland will be the only one outside the United States, Poland’s deputy defense minister said.
