Romania will receive 2.15 billion euros from NATO. Nicușor Dan announces that the North Atlantic Alliance has approved the package.
The funds are allocated for the eastward expansion of the fuel pipeline network, writes Antena3 These will also pass through Romania.
“After more than five years of negotiations, the Alliance has approved the expansion of the NATO fuel pipeline network to the East, a project essential for strengthening security and military mobility on the Eastern Flank. The decision also comes as a result of lessons learned from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which demonstrated how important logistical infrastructure is for collective defense.
Romania has been actively involved from the beginning in this process, through the efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of National Defense and the Romanian Delegation to NATO”, Nicușor Dan conveyed.
In total, the funding amounts to about 27 billion euros, over the next 20 years, and the money will reach several states. The investment is the largest of its kind in the history of the Alliance.
The pipelines through which NATO forces are fueled represent a critical element in the prospect of a war with Russia, and a leader of the military alliance has attempted to extend the network to the Eastern Flank. The respective infrastructure dates back to the Cold War era.
