Russian President Vladimir Putin stated on Monday, July 27, that Western countries resort to “terrorist methods” against Russia, in the context where, according to him, they have failed to achieve a victory on the battlefield.

The statements were made in front of the deputies of the State Duma, gathered at the Kremlin, and targeted the Ukrainian drone attacks on targets located behind the Russian lines, reports EFE, quoted by Agerpres.

“The Russian people will never be defeated by anyone”

The Russian president argued that the support given by Western countries to Ukraine for strikes on military facilities, refineries, and logistics centers in Russia represents a form of aggression against the Russian population:

“Being unable to defeat Russia on the battlefield, they now openly resort to terrorist methods in their fight against our people, but the people of Russia will never be brought down by anyone. This has never happened and it will never happen“.

Vladimir Putin emphasized what he called the unity of Russian society in the face of external challenges, stating that the pressures exerted by the West have strengthened internal cohesion. At the same time, he accused Western countries of having activated to the maximum a “Russophobic” campaign following the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, in February 2022, and that they have tried to affect the economy and financial system of the Russian Federation.

The Kremlin leader reiterated Moscow’s position that Western sanctions have a greater impact on the states that imposed them than on Russia. He also emphasized that the Russian political system is prepared to respond “firmly” to any actions considered hostile.

Putin also made references to the future budget of the Russian Federation, drawing attention to the necessity of maintaining funding for national defense, which represents approximately 40% of total expenditures, as well as for social programs.

The Russian president insisted that Russian soldiers fighting in Ukraine have the support of the entire society and reiterated Moscow’s goal of achieving its objectives in the conflict. In his opinion, the current period represents one of the most important and decisive stages in Russia’s recent history, as the “fate and future of the country” are at stake.
