The chances of Trump and Putin having face-to-face discussions have significantly increased after the Kremlin stated that the two could meet in China. Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump will likely meet on the occasion of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in China, in November, if both participate, said Kremlin foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov on Sunday, according to Anadolu.
Polymarket.com now estimates the chances of a meeting at 45%.
Trump and Putin last met face-to-face in Alaska, in August 2025. Since then, the two presidents have only communicated by phone — without any direct contact. This year’s APEC summit will take place in Shenzhen, China, from 18–19 November.
“If the leaders are at the same event, then it seems to me that they will inevitably meet and discuss”, Ushakov stated in an interview given to the Russian television station VGTRK.
According to this, there have not yet been any signals or indications regarding plans for such a meeting, but there are still about three months until the APEC summit.
“We must wait until then. For now, we still have many important international events,” he said.
In the meantime, Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, stated in a separate interview given to VGTRK that NATO and EU countries will not be able to publicly distance themselves from providing military assistance to Ukraine and pursuing what he described as an anti-Russian policy.
