Vladimir Putin has enacted a law that eliminates the financial debts of recruits who have committed to fight on the Ukrainian front. The measure seems to be one to motivate citizens to go to the front.

The new law provides for the cancellation of debts up to the amount of 10 million rubles (about 120,000 euros) for those who have signed a contract with the army starting from May 1, 2026, and for whom debt recovery procedures were already underway, reports Agerpres.

The new regulations will also target the debts of the spouse of the person signing the contract with the armed forces. The condition is that these citizens must sign the document for a period of at least one year.

For over four years, Russia has been offering attractive salaries and social benefits to those who join the offensive against Ukraine. The Russian economy is affected by the costs of the war in Ukraine, the needs of the armed forces taking precedence over those of other sectors. In this context, the Kremlin administration is trying to offer a social rise to the soldiers returning from the front, providing them with jobs and various facilities.
