Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian refineries, warehouses, and ports did not produce “critical consequences” for Russia, claims Vladimir Putin, although the strikes in recent months have severely affected oil refining, logistics, and grain exports.

“Of course, there are not, have not been, and cannot be critical consequences following such attacks. But, evidently, they cause us damage. We understand this and, obviously, we know what it’s about. I would like to emphasize once again that we need to strengthen the country’s sovereignty,” Putin stated, at the beginning of a meeting of the Presidential Council for Strategic Development, according to the Moscow Times.

Since the beginning of 2026, Ukrainian drones have attacked Russian refineries over 70 times, and several dozen important facilities have been temporarily shut down. As a result of the attacks, the volume of oil refining has dropped to its lowest level since 2002, and is currently about a third below the normal level for this time of year, according to Rystad estimates.
