The Kremlin announced on Monday evening that Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump had a phone conversation. The call lasted about an hour, and the main topics of discussion were the wars in Ukraine and Iran, according to the press service of the Russian presidential administration.
Journalists close to the Kremlin claim that the dialogue focused on assessments of the current situation in Iran. Putin is said to have suggested ways to resolve the conflict to the American leader.
“A substantial exchange of opinions took place and I believe it was not without purpose,” reported Yuri Ushakov, Vladimir Putin’s advisor.
Referring to the war in Ukraine, Putin said that the success of the Russian Armed Forces should encourage the regime in Kiev to negotiate peace, according to Ushakov. The Russian official also claims that Trump expressed his interest in ending the war in Ukraine as soon as possible, through a ceasefire and a long-term solution.
The White House has not yet provided details about Trump’s phone call with Putin.
