The discovery of a drone loaded with explosives at Leipzig airport demonstrates that Russian President Vladimir Putin would be prepared to bring down a passenger plane somewhere in Europe, warns a security expert quoted by the British publication The Sun.
Panic erupted on Wednesday at the Leipzig airport, after a modified drone was discovered near a fleet of Ukrainian cargo planes. Moments later, the situation worsened, after a second unidentified object collided with a nearby aircraft.
Security Expert’s Warning
Will Geddes, a security expert, stated that these alarming breaches have “generated fear not only among the armies and at a global level, but also among commercial airports.”
According to him, the incident demonstrates that Putin would be more than capable of using a drone to destroy a passenger plane in Europe.
“It’s a disaster waiting to happen”, Geddes declared for The Sun.
The expert added that the device could be adapted to transport radioactive material or even a biological weapon.
“The visible demonstration of the ability to approach a cargo plane at an airport like the one in Leipzig shows that, if the device had exploded, the impact would have been devastating”, Geddes said.
