The British aviation has launched F-35 planes to intercept a Russian military aircraft that had come “far too close” to the UK’s main aircraft carrier, HMS Prince of Wales, in the North Polar Circle, reports The Independent.
The British Ministry of Defence announced on Monday that a Russian maritime patrol aircraft “Bear F” (“Ursul F”, in NATO coding) “approached repeatedly” the aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales, before launching into the water “a large number” of naval tracking devices.
“While operating in the Norwegian Sea, as part of Operation Firecrest, the carrier escort naval group was repeatedly approached by a Bear-F maritime patrol aircraft,” stated a spokesperson for the British Ministry of Defence.
The activity of the Russian plane was described by the British as “unsafe and unprofessional.”
