President Vladimir Putin asserts that the recorded presence at the parliamentary elections over the weekend indicates that Russians support the Russian forces fighting in Ukraine and the efforts of the authorities for national security, wrote Reuters.
The pro-Kremlin party “United Russia”, in power, has retained its majority in the national parliament following the State Duma elections this weekend, according to the electoral results presented on Monday.
Monday’s results placed United Russia at a score of 57%, which means it is set to have a record number of 355 seats in the State Duma, that is, almost 80% of the total.
The scrutiny has been labeled by the EU as “a mockery of democracy”, and Novaia Gazeta Europa, an independent publication, asserts that United Russia actually achieved a score 1.7 times lower than the officially announced one.
Putin presented the scrutiny as a test of popular support for the war in Ukraine and for his declared determination to continue the fight until the main military objectives are achieved.
