On the night of May 24, Russia launched one of the most violent aerial attacks on Ukraine since the beginning of the war, in a massive offensive involving hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles, targeting even the historic center of Kiev. For the first time since World War II, the building of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs was damaged as a result of Russian bombings.

The Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Andrii Sibiha, stated that the explosions occurred in the immediate vicinity of the institution’s headquarters and accused Moscow of targeting the “center of old Kyivan Russia”.

“Looking at the broken windows this morning, I can say with all conviction, on behalf of the entire diplomatic team: Russian terrorists will not stop us”, the Ukrainian official conveyed.

The attack affected several regions of Ukraine, including Kiev, Cherkasy, Kharkov, Odessa, Poltava, Sumy, and Zhytomyr. According to Ukrainian authorities, Russia used an impressive arsenal: about 600 drones of the Shahed, Gerbera, Italmass, and Parodia types, as well as dozens of ballistic and cruise missiles.

Among these were the H-47M2 Kinjal hypersonic missiles, Kalibr and Iskander-M cruise missiles, as well as the 3M22 Zircon anti-ship missiles.

The Ukrainian air defense forces have managed to intercept 55 missiles and 549 drones, however, several projectiles have hit critical infrastructure and residential areas.

President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that over 80 people were injured, and two women lost their lives in the capital. The most severe damages were recorded in Kiev, where 56 people were injured.

The Ukrainian leader also confirmed the strike on a target in the city of Bila Tserkva with a medium-range “Oreshnik” ballistic missile.
