President Vladimir Putin has remained silent about the actions of the USA in Venezuela, with which Russia is bound by a “comprehensive strategic” partnership agreement and in which it has invested nearly 20 billion dollars in the last two decades, notes The Moscow Times publication.

Thus, during his first public speech after the New Year’s holiday, at the ceremony of presenting credentials of foreign ambassadors at the Kremlin, Putin did not utter a word about the capture of Nicolas Maduro by the American army, with whom he had met twice in the last year and a half (in May 2025 and October 2024), calling Venezuela a “friend” and a “trusted partner” of Russia.

Putin also remained silent about the detention of oil tankers from the Russian shadow fleet, which were used for the transport of Venezuelan oil.

In the same context, the Kremlin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, did not utter a word about Venezuela during the first post-New Year briefing on Thursday.

Addressing the ambassadors, Putin said that the situation on the international stage is “deteriorating more and more”.

“The search for consensus and compromise solutions is increasingly replaced by unilateral and very dangerous actions. And instead of a dialogue between states, there is a monologue of those who, by the right of the powerful, consider it permissible to dictate their will, to control life and to give orders,” Putin said.
