The Director of the Hermitage Museum, Mihail Piotrovsky, and rapper Timati have been sanctioned by the European Union. The information was published in the official journal of the EU.

Mihail Piotrovski is presented as a close ally of Vladimir Putin. Officials in Brussels note that he has publicly supported the war in Ukraine, backed the idea of including cultural objects from Ukrainian museums in Russia’s collection, and led archaeological excavations in Crimea, actions causing “the destruction of protected Ukrainian heritage sites.”

Timati, whose real name is Timur Yunusov, is accused of spreading Kremlin’s propagandistic narratives, declared his readiness to fight against Ukraine, supported Vladimir Putin in the elections, and endorsed the annexation of Crimea, reports Kommersant.

The 20th package of European sanctions against Russia, approved on April 23, also includes restrictions related to financial services, trade, and energy.
