Users in Russia have lost access to the games of the American company 2K on the PlayStation console, according to the Russian press. Among the titles that no longer work is the turn-based strategy Civilization VI, which no longer gets past the start screen. The price of the game along with all extensions is approximately 9,000 rubles (approx. 99 euros).
Also, the basketball simulator NBA 2K25 can no longer be launched from Russian accounts. When trying to enter the game, the screen displays the message “connection error”. The company’s support service explained the problems by the existence of “regional restrictions”.
The Civilization series, created by Sid Meier and the studio Firaxis Games in 1991, is one of the most successful franchises in the history of the video game industry. By the beginning of 2025, over 73 million copies have been sold worldwide.
The 2K company has been publishing the Civilization series since 2005 and is also known for titles such as Borderlands, BioShock, Mafia and XCOM. Officially, the company stopped selling its games in Russia after the outbreak of the war against Ukraine, in 2022.
