The government formed by Siegfried Mureșan did not accumulate enough votes in the Romanian Parliament. There were 182 “for” votes, 15 “against”, and none annulled.
“Regarding the next steps, it is natural for the President of Romania to invite the parliamentary parties for consultations and we will see what solutions he will propose. It is clear that those who triggered the political crisis have not assumed the resolution of the political crisis even today.”
PSD and AUR voted against the government led by Prime Minister Bolojan five months ago and today they abstained from voting, they did not support the resolution of the crisis that I proposed. We are waiting to see what the President of Romania proposes
We have made clear decisions within the party up to this point. Although we did not cause the political crisis, we were willing to take responsibility. We will see after consultations with the President of Romania what the possible options are.
The National Liberal Party, USR, and UDMR nominated me as a candidate on June 26. After that, for 84 days, nothing happened in Romania and that is not my responsibility. I did what was up to me. Just 5 days after the publication of my designation decree, I presented to the Romanian Parliament a clear, concrete, ambitious government program and a team of competent and integral ministers. Obviously, the waste of time took place elsewhere and not with us, at the National Liberal Party,” Mureșan conveyed after the legislative session in Bucharest.
The current failed attempt to form a Government comes after two other nominations that did not lead to the installation of an Executive, according to Mediafax. Eugen Tomac resigned after failing to form a majority, and the Government proposed by Adrian Veștea did not get the necessary votes in Parliament.
Previously, Nicușor Dan stated that early elections do not represent a solution to end the political crisis and appealed to parties to overcome political disputes.
