The events dedicated to Victory Day have been cancelled in Crimea, due to “safety issues”, following the intensification of Ukrainian drone attacks, announced on Tuesday the head of the Russian occupation authorities, Sergei Aksionov.

Aksionov stated that this year in Crimea there will be no military parade or other major events, including the usual march of the Immortal Regiment.

“This decision by the authorities is based on security considerations,” Aksionov wrote in a post on Telegram, without mentioning Ukraine or drones, according to Kyiv Independent.

“At the same time, we will do everything necessary and possible to pay tribute to our dear veterans, to honor the memory of the fallen, and to organize festive events in various formats. Crimea will mark our main celebration with dignity”, added Aksionov.

In the meantime, Mihail Razvozhaev, the head of the Russian occupation government in Sevastopol, stated on May 6th that the city’s services are “actively” cleaning the monuments of Soviet heroes, taking care of flower beds, planting flowers, and decorating the streets with festive arrangements.

It happens after a secret rehearsal for the Moscow Victory Parade ended with a mass withdrawal of soldiers, after the exercise was abruptly disrupted by air raid alerts and rapid mobilization to shelters.
