At the State University of Moscow, the formation of a closed center, which was established for the director of the University’s Artificial Intelligence Institute, Katerina Tikhonova, daughter of Vladimir Putin, has been completed.
Now, Tihonova controls the most modern part of education, research, and development of artificial intelligence in Russia. A unified ecosystem of this project, which includes a research center, an institute, a faculty, and the supercomputer “MGU-270”, has been created on the Vorobiov Hills, according to The Moscow Times.
The launch of the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence was announced on April 21, 2026. The faculty is led by the Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and General Director of the AIRI Artificial Intelligence Institute, Ivan Oseledets. “We have 36 undergraduate students, of which 20 are funded by the budget, and 36 at the master’s level, of which 20 are also budget-funded,” Oseledets stated.
The cost of studies is approximately 500,000 rubles per year (about 5,600 euros). One of the members of the Russian Academy of Sciences is surprised by this approach: “Is it necessary to separate artificial intelligence?… Why is it a new faculty and not a department? I don’t understand… Is it the logic of the ‘king of the mountain’: to claim a niche for yourself?”
