The Ministry of Defense in Moscow announced on Wednesday that a Russian corvette fired two signal rockets towards a Danish helicopter in the Baltic Sea, in order to prevent what it called a “provocation”, reports Agerpres.
The Russian Ministry specified in a statement that Moscow has decorated the commander of the Russian ship for his actions, as well as that the Danish helicopter has left the scene of the incident.
According to the Danish army, the incident took place on Monday in the international waters of the Baltic Sea off the city of Gedser, in the southernmost part of Denmark. Also according to the Danish army, its helicopter was conducting a ‘routine’ operation of photographing the Russian warship.
The Danish Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen, denounced on Tuesday an “irresponsible action on the part of Russia”.
