Russian authorities have removed from the public space detailed statistics on the number of disabled people, in the context of a sharp increase in the number of wounded on the Ukrainian front — the figures estimated by Western intelligence services being in the order of hundreds of thousands.
According to the “If we are to be exact” (Esli byt tochnym) project, the Social Fund has ceased the publication of centralized data from the Federal Register of Persons with Disabilities, which also included the causes of disability — among which are war injuries. The detailed figures by regions, the number of those who received the status of a disabled person for the first time, as well as data on the means of rehabilitation distributed, were also hidden.
Data on their own disabled are no longer updated by either the Ministry of Internal Affairs or the Ministry of Defense. Currently, in the Unified Intra-Institutional Information System (ЕМИСС), only general figures on the total number of disabled people are still available, the source specifies.
