Russia is replenishing its military equipment stocks and sending new tanks and armored vehicles to warehouses located a few hundred kilometers from the borders of some NATO member states. Satellite images show that T-90M tanks and BTR-82A armored carriers have appeared at a military base in the Kostroma region, while another warehouse, in the Altai region, has received upgraded T-72B3M tanks and BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicles.

According to an analysis published by the Ukrainian press, Russia has begun to replenish its reserves of military equipment after numerous armored vehicles were removed from depots and sent to the front in Ukraine. Analysts are also considering the possibility that some of this equipment is being kept for future military operations, but satellite images do not demonstrate that Moscow is preparing an attack on NATO.

T-90M tanks at a base located 500 kilometers from NATO borders

Between October 2025 and October 2026, at the Central Base No. 22 for tank reserve, located in the city of Buy, in the Russian region of Kostroma, T-90M tanks and BTR-82A armored carriers appeared, according to the information presented in the cited analysis.

The base is located approximately 500 kilometers from the borders with Latvia and Estonia, two NATO member states. According to the report, the new armored vehicles were not sent to the front in Ukraine, but ended up in the military depot.

The T-90M, also known as “Proryv”, is a modernized version of the Russian T-90 tank, designed to enhance the vehicle’s protection, firepower, and combat capabilities. The BTR-82A is an armored carrier intended for the transportation of military personnel and their support in ground operations.

The appearance of these equipment in storage is relevant in the context of Moscow’s efforts to replenish its armored equipment reserves, following the losses suffered in the war in Ukraine.
