The State Duma has adopted a law that simplifies the sale of homes confiscated from individuals convicted of corruption. According to authorities, the measure could bring additional funds to the federal budget, which had a deficit of 6 trillion rubles at the beginning of June.
Until now, the state could only auction off homes whose market value exceeded at least twice the officially calculated value. For this reason, only 8% of the confiscated apartments met the necessary conditions to be sold.
The new law eliminates this restriction and expands the list of goods that can be capitalized. Houses, apartments, rooms, parts of dwellings, and shares of properties can be auctioned off.
The document also removes the obligation to wait six months before organizing a new auction in case the first procedure fails.
According to the chairman of the State Duma’s Commission for Property and Land Relations, Sergei Gavrilov, the state will thus be able to sell about 3,000 apartments confiscated from individuals convicted of corruption.
