Russia will closely monitor the NATO summit in Turkey, declared the voice of the Kremlin, Dmitry Peskov, on Tuesday. According to the Russian official, confrontational statements against Moscow were made ahead of the North Atlantic Alliance meeting.

At the same time, the Kremlin’s spokesperson, Dmitri Peskov, stated that Russia maintains working contacts with the USA and hopes that the United States’ efforts to mediate peace in Ukraine will be successful.

On Sunday, Trump had phone discussions with both Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenski and Russian President Vladimir Putin, emphasizing that the issue of Ukraine will also be discussed at the NATO summit in Ankara, writes Agerpres.

After the discussions with Zelenski in Ankara, scheduled for Wednesday, Trump would intend to call Putin again. The President of Ukraine would try to obtain concrete commitments for deliveries of Patriot missile systems and missiles for them, to defend against Russian attacks.

NATO leaders are planning to announce on Tuesday, in Ankara, arms contracts worth tens of billions of dollars. Thus, they aim to demonstrate to Donald Trump that they are responding to US calls to spend more on Europe’s defense, before the American president, newly arrived in Ankara, joins the summit.
