Epețki, a 44-year-old Russian cartoonist and blogger known for his harsh criticisms of the Kremlin regime, was fatally shot Monday morning in Poland. The artist, who had obtained political refugee status after fleeing from Russia, had warned shortly before his death that he was receiving threats.

According to the Polish publication wPolsce24, the attack took place around 10:00, in a parking lot of a residential complex in the city of Biała Podlaska, a town located in the east of Poland, near the border with Belarus.

He was shot from a short distance

According to preliminary information, the attacker approached Skrepețki and fired at him several times from close range. Medical teams arriving at the scene tried to resuscitate him, but the injuries suffered proved fatal. Shortly before the assassination, the artist had written on his Telegram channel that he was receiving threats and feared for his safety. The investigation is ongoing, and the Polish authorities have not yet announced an official motive for the crime.

The suspect, detained near the Consulate of Belarus

According to the Polish press, the alleged perpetrator of the attack was detained shortly after the crime near the Belarusian Consulate. Unofficial sources claim that he would be a Belarusian citizen. Polish journalists note that the suspect’s escape route and proximity to the diplomatic representation of the regime led by Alexander Lukashenko fuel speculation about a possible ordered assassination. For now, the authorities have not confirmed such a hypothesis.
