Authorities are delaying payments for the treatment of soldiers injured in the war against Ukraine to doctors in the Belgorod region, local press reports, citing medical staff.

These are allowances ranging from approximately 200 to 1,000 euros (equivalent to 20,000–100,000 rubles), approved by the government in March 2023 and funded from the federal budget, heavily affected by military expenses.

A month ago, the head of the Ministry of Health in the Belgorod region, Andrei Ikonnikov, confirmed that these payments will be made in 2026. According to him, the funds only reached the region at the end of February, and the arrears for January and February were to be paid “soon”.

However, according to an employee of City Hospital No. 2, the management allegedly told the doctors to “wait and rely only on their salary”, even though these supplements were previously granted regularly, usually in the middle of the month. Although the administration promises that all payments will be made, it is unclear when this will happen.

“Without these payments, you have nothing to live on,” the source said, emphasizing that the salaries of doctors in Belgorod are already low. “Although the average salary in Belgorod is about 730 euros (73,000 rubles), many of us work 1.5 shifts — that is, up to 240 hours per month — and sometimes we don’t even reach 600 euros (60,000 rubles). Without these supplements, it becomes impossible to live.”
