The airspace over Iași County was temporarily closed on Saturday evening following drone incursions. Ro-Alert emergency messages were sent out in five Romanian counties.

The Ministry of National Defence carried out missions in Iași, Neamț, Vaslui, Botoșani and Bacău counties, according to Agerpres. One of the drones that flew over the Republic of Moldova crossed the Prut River and flew over Romania.

The director of Iași International Airport, Romeo Vatră, told AGERPRES that the Wizz Air flight from Eindhoven, which was scheduled to arrive at 18:25, had been diverted to Ștefan cel Mare International Airport in Suceava.

The decision was taken because the airspace over Iași had been temporarily closed for a military mission, the director of Iași Airport said.

According to Agerpres, the alert issued by the military was later extended to Suceava County as well.

“We advise the public to remain calm, stay vigilant and follow the instructions given in the warning message. If they spot objects that have fallen from the sky, they should not approach them and should immediately notify the authorities by calling the single emergency number, 112. We also urge the public to seek information only from official, verified sources and to avoid sharing unverified information,” the warning issued to the public stated.

Two Romanian Air Force F-16 fighter jets on air policing duty scrambled from the 71st Air Base in Câmpia Turzii following drone incidents. Two more F-16s and a helicopter were also scrambled from the 86th Air Base in Fetești.
