Russia’s military expenditures reached 190 billion dollars in 2025, according to SIPRI estimates. Compared to 2024, the military budget increased by 5.9%, and compared to the period before the war — by 96%, reaching the highest level since the last years of the Soviet Union, when defense spending was between 218 and 245 billion dollars annually (1987–1990).

On average, Russia’s war machine consumed 15.8 billion dollars per month, 3.65 billion per week, 520 million per day, and almost 22 million per hour, according to SIPRI calculations.

For the first time in the modern history of the country, approximately 20% of total public expenditure was directed towards the military.

Only in the chapter “national defense”, the federal budget allocated 13.5 trillion rubles (approximately 139 billion euros), meaning every third ruble spent. Of this amount, 79% were classified expenses, their share increasing by 6 percentage points in a single year.

In addition to the official military budget, the authorities have included approximately another 2.5 trillion rubles (around 26 billion euros) in other budget chapters — from construction and education to health, culture, and social policies.

Thus, the Kremlin’s total military expenditures have reached 15.963 trillion rubles (approximately 165 billion euros), which represents about 38% of the federal budget.
