Almost 20% of the aircraft of major Russian airlines are no longer in use due to the lack of spare parts and Western sanctions, which have blocked the delivery of aviation equipment, reports Kommersant.

According to the publication, 11 airlines that transport over 90% of passengers from Russia have grounded 130 out of the 673 aircraft in their fleet.

Experts in the field say that, normally, during the summer season, no more than 10% of airplanes should be unavailable, as they are undergoing scheduled technical revisions.

The situation is even more serious in the case of companies that are not part of the Aeroflot group. At eight airlines, almost a third of the fleet – 93 out of 322 aircraft – are not performing flights.
