The general director of the Teleradio Moldova Company, Vlad Țurcanu, announced his resignation following the scandal erupted at the Eurovision finale. This happened after several complaints appeared in the public space regarding the score given by the jury to Romania and Ukraine, and the official was asked to resign.

Vlad Țurcanu made the announcement during a press conference, reports IPN.

“Even though we have dissociated ourselves from the jury’s decisions, the vote cast is our responsibility and, first and foremost, mine, as the leader of the institution. I avoided giving instructions to the jury, to the jury members, and what happened, something unusual, serious, from our point of view, was that the jury did not take into account the sensitivities that exist between the Republic of Moldova and our two neighbors, Romania and Ukraine”, mentioned Vlad Țurcanu.

Vlad Țurcanu stated that the mandates of his two deputies, among whom is Andrei Zapșa, who was a member of the jury, automatically cease with his resignation.

The scandal surrounding the vote given to Romania by the Republic of Moldova at Eurovision 2026 erupted due to a major discrepancy between the jury’s decision and the public vote. While the Moldovan public awarded Romania the maximum score of 12 points, the national jury in Chisinau only gave 3 points to the song “Choke me,” performed by Alexandra Căpitănescu.

Moldova’s contestant, Satoshi, who performed the song “Viva, Moldova”, received 12 points from the Romanian public and 10 points from the jury.

The Embassy of Romania in Chisinau and the Bucharest representative at the competition conveyed messages of unity and mentioned that musical preferences can be different, and ultimately, the appreciation of the audience is important.
