The President of the Supreme Court of Russia, Igor Krasnov, has ordered the transfer to the General Prosecutor’s Office of materials concerning two judges of the Regional Court in Nizhny Novgorod — the presidents of the administrative and civil cases boards, Viktor Fomin and Vyacheslav Sapega. Assets that do not correspond to their declared incomes have been identified for these individuals and their family members, reports the publication Kommersant.
The expenses of Fomin and his wife, from 2015 to 2020, exceeded their official incomes, totaling over 20 million rubles (approximately 220,000 euros). During this period, the family purchased an apartment in Nizhny Novgorod with an area of 232 square meters and a BMW X6 car. At the same time, the judge’s mother — a 74-year-old retiree from Saratov — owned 34 properties in Moscow, the Moscow region, and Saratov.
Investigators also point to possible income manipulations: Fomin allegedly sold an apartment in Vidnoe, in the Moscow region, to his mother for 14 million rubles (approximately 154,000 euros), after which she resold it at market price — for 9.5 million rubles (about 105,000 euros).
A similar case was found with respect to Judge Vyacheslav Sapega and his wife, who own a residential house, two holiday homes, and several cars. The judge’s parents, also retirees, were said to own apartments, parking spaces, and commercial spaces in Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod, as well as BMW X5 cars.
Judges Fomin and Sapega risk dismissal from their positions and confiscation of their assets, according to the publication.
