The heads of government from eight Nordic and Baltic countries expressed their support for Ukraine’s accession to the EU. The joint statement was made public at a regional summit in Tallinn, Estonia.

The eight Nordic and Baltic states advocated on Tuesday for the swift opening of Ukraine’s EU accession negotiations and also supported Kiev’s approach to NATO, according to news.ro. Foreign leaders have welcomed the progress made by Kiev in its European journey.

“Ukraine is a strategic security partner of NATO and directly contributes to Euro-Atlantic security (…). We support Ukraine in its irreversible march towards full Euro-Atlantic integration, including its accession to NATO,” the heads of state conveyed.

The leaders of the eight countries gathered in the presence of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenski. They emphasized that all negotiation files must be opened in June-July 2026 and stressed that Ukraine’s accession to the EU must be accomplished as quickly as possible, and integration into NATO is irreversible.
