The Information and Security Service (SIS) warns that the personal data of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova are being massively collected by the special services of the Russian Federation. According to the authority, Russian spies are passing them on to fraudsters.

Russian officers are collecting data from the Dark Web, databases illegally extracted by hacking into private servers. Moreover, Moscow would also use information from the databases collected by Șor, which contain details about 145,000 individuals.

The assessment of the information held indicates detailed databases containing first and last names, email addresses, phone numbers, home addresses, as well as copies of identity documents, writes newsmaker.md.

“The collected information is subsequently transmitted to organized criminal groups, with cross-border coverage, to be used in fraudulent actions and the theft of funds from citizens’ bank cards, as well as in cash. The purpose of these orchestrated attacks is to create a feeling of insecurity and distrust in society. We recommend that citizens urgently report such suspicious situations to the nearest police unit or by calling 112,” announces SIS.

The Information and Security Service warns that these actions are not isolated incidents, but are part of the hybrid war undermining national stability.

According to the Service, state institutions and financial-banking institutions have been informed and will take precautionary measures.
