David Petraeus, former director of the CIA, has warned that the Republic of Moldova could be more vulnerable than Lithuania to Vladimir Putin’s policy of restoring Moscow’s influence in the former Soviet space. In his opinion, our country could become Russia’s next target.
Petraeus believes that European countries are not sufficiently prepared for potential security threats and is of the opinion that NATO needs to radically transform its strategies and military capabilities, writes realitatea.md.
“Putin is constantly trying to rebuild the Soviet Union. I don’t think Lithuania will be the next country. Moldova is much more likely, as it is much more vulnerable in this regard. European countries are not prepared. None of them have implemented the necessary revolutionary changes in terms of war, defense, and security concepts,” believes the former American official.
David Petraeus made these statements shortly after a Russian drone struck a passenger train on Sunday, at the border between Ukraine and Poland, reports Antena3. Among those on board were numerous foreign officials, including former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and the advisor to the German Chancellor.
The former official described this incident as a terrifying one and said that “this is the act of a truly barbaric leader, who is trying to terrorize Ukrainian civilians”.
