On April 26, a rally took place in Comrat “in defense of Gagauz autonomy and in support of the governor Evghenia Guțul”, reports the local press. Participants in the event took to the streets with placards, and at the end a resolution was read out, calling for the release of the governor convicted for illegal financing of Șor’s parties, setting a new date for the Popular Assembly elections, and conducting them in accordance with the rules of autonomy.
The meeting participants came out with placards inscribed with messages such as: “Freedom for the governor of Gagauzia – freedom for Evghenia Gutul”, “Moldova – guarantor of Gagauzia or liquidator?”, “The governor – a political prisoner!”, “We are for independence!”, “We demand PAS to respect the Law on the special legal status of Gagauzia!”.
At the end of the demonstration, a resolution was read, reports Newsmaker. In it, besides the demand to release Evghenia Guțul, it mentioned the “treacherous position of some deputies from the autonomy and some mayors”.
Additionally, the event participants have asked the local deputies to set a new date for the elections.
