The British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, reaffirmed on Wednesday that the United Kingdom will not officially join the war initiated by the USA and Israel against Iran unless there is a legal basis and a plan for the objectives, reports EFE agency, quoted by Agerpres.
In his weekly intervention in front of the House of Commons, Starmer clarified that his position has not changed since the one expressed on Saturday, when he rejected the US request to use British military bases to attack Iran.
However, on Sunday, after Iran responded to the US-Israel bombings with missile and drone attacks against American military bases in the Gulf, the British Prime Minister authorized the use of British bases for attacks on “defensive purposes” against Iranian military targets, the justification he invoked being that of protecting British citizens in the area.
“The thing I was not willing to do on Saturday was for the United Kingdom to join a war, unless I was convinced that there is a legal basis and a well-thought-out and viable plan. This is still my position,” Starmer responded after being asked by the opposition why the Royal Air Force (RAF) is not participating in the attack operations in Iran together with its allies.
