The US special envoy, Steve Witkoff, stated that he and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, will travel to Moscow on January 22 for a meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
“The Russians have invited us to come, and that is a significant statement on their part,” Witkoff said in an interview with Bloomberg TV at Davos, on January 21, in the context of Washington-led efforts to mediate peace between Kiev and Moscow.
The American envoy clarified that Trump remains “focused on this peace agreement” and that there have been “even more significant progress” towards an agreement.
“I believe everyone is involved in the process and wants to reach a peace agreement,” he added.
The Kremlin spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, confirmed plans for a meeting between Putin and Witkoff on January 22, according to the state agency TASS.
The Kremlin had previously stated that it is prepared to welcome Witkoff and Kushner to Moscow to continue discussions on peace efforts in Ukraine, although no exact date had been set until now.
