Steve Witkoff, the special envoy of the American president for peace missions, allegedly made a private message public, inadvertently revealing the source of the leak in the Axios publication of the peace plan for Ukraine.

In a comment later deleted on platform X, Donald Trump’s envoy suggested that the information from an article published on Wednesday in Axios about peace in Ukraine must have come from someone known as “K”, reports The Daily Beast on Thursday, cited by Agerpres.

“Probably found out about this from K,” wrote Trump’s chief negotiator on Wednesday, apparently unaware that he was posting on X and not sending a private message.

Witkoff’s apparent blunder was a reaction to Ravid’s post of a link to their exclusive material.

The article, titled “US secretly drafting a new plan to end the war in Ukraine”, revealed that “Witkoff is leading the drafting of the plan and has extensively discussed it with Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev”.

“Almost certainly it’s about Kirill Dmitriev”

The publication cited an anonymous American official as the source. Journalist Michael Weiss immediately noticed the blunder, posting a screenshot and noting:

Almost certainly it’s about Kirill Dmitriev, quoted in the article. But it seems that the Russian side is disclosing this information for some reason. Also, it seems that Dim Philby (Witkoff) doesn’t know how Twitter works, but is still confident in his ability to end the war“.

Dim Philby is a play on words based on the name of Kim Philby, a British intelligence officer and double agent of the Soviet Union.
