A dark spot observed on the left hand of Russian President Vladimir Putin in several video recordings recently published by the Kremlin has generated new speculation about his health status.
According to the independent publication The Moscow Times, the sign was visible in the message sent by Putin on the occasion of the start of the school year, but also in another video material dedicated to Miner’s Day.
In the images released by the Kremlin, the Moscow leader partially covers his left hand with his right one, but during the gestures, the spot can be observed in several frames.
The consulted doctors put forward the hypothesis of an intravenous injection “performed negligently”
The Moscow Times spoke with three practicing doctors, who suggested that the mark could be consistent with the traces of a recent intravenous intervention.
A doctor from the Moscow ambulance service described the spot as “an hematoma about three days after an injection“, while an anesthesiologist-resuscitator stated that it resembles the traces of a “negligently performed injection”.
In turn, a cardiologist with over 50 years of experience explained that the back of the palm is not the usual place for an intravenous puncture, as, typically, doctors use the vein in the inner elbow area. According to him, injections in the hand area are used in certain situations, including when other veins have been frequently used or when rapid administration of treatment is necessary.
