A former 34-year-old consultant of the Swedish army was convicted on Wednesday for attempts to transmit classified information to Russian special services. The attempts occurred in 2025.

The court has ruled that the man must undergo psychiatric treatment, according to news.ro. He suffered from a mental disorder and worked as an IT consultant for the army, during the period 2018 – 2022.

The individual was born in Sweden and had immigrant parents from Iran. During a trip to Moscow, between November and December 2025, he allegedly tried to disclose secret information, which he had obtained as part of his professional activities.

The citizen had previously contacted the FSB and GRU, asking in return for protection from the Russian authorities, as well as citizenship.

During the trial, which lasted three days and was largely conducted behind closed doors, the man denied the allegations.
