A high-ranking Polish defense official announced on Wednesday that the United States has expressed interest in establishing a permanent US military base in Poland.

Cezary Tomczyk, the Deputy Minister of Defense from Warsaw, made the announcement a day after the Polish government approved the necessary measures to allow the creation of such a goal, according to news.ro.

“The Americans are interested in the Polish offer to establish a permanent base here,” said the official.

The US State Department has not yet commented on the statements of the Polish official.

As a rule, approximately 10,000 American soldiers are stationed in Poland. The US troops rotate. In May, the US abruptly halted the deployment of 4,000 soldiers in Poland, despite the fact that the Trump administration considered this country a “model ally”.
